THANK YOU to all of you who showed up at the nearly 400 ‘Bans Off Our Bodies’ rallies this past Saturday. Your voices were heard around the world! We were so proud to stand unified with you, urging the Supreme Court and anti-abortion lawmakers to keep abortion safe, legal, and accessible.
As an independent abortion provider, we know that showing up to support abortion is one of the best ways to bust abortion stigma. Stigma thrives in silence and shame, so openly supporting abortion, people who have abortions, and those who provide abortions can go a long way in changing how our culture feels and talks about it.
Are you unsure what to do now that the rallies are over? Here’s what you can do today to help bust abortion stigma.
Know How to Have a Conversation
There has never been a better time to learn how to navigate conversations about abortion. It may seem like an uphill battle, but we’ve got you covered. Here are a few tips to get started. You can also learn more about what to say and what not to say to a friend who’s having an abortion.
Be Pro-Abortion, not Pro-Choice
‘Abortion allows people to take control of their future’, ‘abortions help people thrive’, and ‘abortion is a moral and social good’ are a few examples of phrases you can use instead of ‘pro-choice.’ Find additional resources about why we should all be pro-abortion here.
Support Independent Abortion Clinics
Independent clinics are critical to the abortion care landscape. They provide 3 out of every 5 abortions in the U.S. each year and the majority of abortions after the first trimester. They are also the clinics most at risk if Roe is weakened or overturned. We encourage you to find your local independent clinic and see how you can support them at this critical time.
Donate
The future is uncertain for independent abortion clinics like ours. As we await a final decision from the Supreme Court, we are still assisting people who need abortions, and we will continue doing so for as long as we can.
The outpouring of love and support from people like you, means the world to us. Donate to WWHA to help us continue to do what we do best: provide excellent abortion care while pushing back against abortion restrictions, barriers and stigmas.
